Vegas And Sparks
At the beginning of the month, January 2013, we found out that one of our J&M Acres graduates is pregnant!
Vegas is a coming four year old Standardbred mare who was brought into the rescue at the beginning of May. A few weeks later, she was adopted by Julie and J&M Acres Horse Rescue with the intended purpose of having her be an extra horse for friends and family to ride.
When one particular friend started to come around the rescue and I taught her to ride, it wasn't long before her and Vegas were the ones hitting the trails together, despite them both being green, and sure enough, she was re-adopted out in July and they have turned out to be the most fantastic pair.
We did however notice that Vegas was getting rounder and rounder over the past few months. We finally bit the bullet and decided to get her preg-checked a couple of weeks ago and we found out that she was in deed due to foal.
The vet guesstimated the baby would be here around February or March, but when we went out to the stalls on January 20, 2013, we found them both hanging out. I guess she couldn't wait to meet her new family!
He is a Standardbred, just his mom. We figure he was probably born around 7-8am and is big, soft, healthy and very friendly. We have dubbed him "Sparks". It is not only a city in Nevada like Vegas, but also seems to suit his personality as he is very calm and level headed except for little spurts of energetic moments. Vegas is doing great as well, a little unsure but has so far been very loving and protective like a good momma and still great with letting us all pet and visit so long as she could see the foal.
All in all this baby is a little J&M miracle and is a beautiful new addition to our family.
