He was previously adopted, but was returned from his adoptive home on January 27, 2014 to find a better fit.
We are fairly sure that his response is due to associating being ridden with pain, probably due to ill-fitting saddles and an unbalanced rider. Our equine sports therapist had the same opinion after she came out to work on him a couple Sunday's ago.
As I said, he is a very sweet boy on the ground. He is sound and healthy, get's along with the other horses and tends to be at the lower-level of the hierarchy, he is fairly easy to handle and good to lead, load and haul. He just needs an understanding home and a chance to bond with someone of his own who will help him to be comfortable again. We hope that we can find him a home who will help him overcome his fear and negative association with being ridden, but we will also look at an adoptive home in a companion capacity. Somewhere where he would be loved and looked after, but could live his days as a retired horse.
If you are interested in giving Sonora the home he needs, please contact us for an adoption application and to learn more about him or to set up an appointment to meet him. He is currently located in Maple Ridge. His adoption fee is $500, but willing to negotiate to the right home.
We will continue to work with him here at the rescue until he finds his forever home.
