He is a Standardbred gelding in whose surrender was facilitated via the BC SPCA. He arrived on March 10th in bad shape. He was extremely underweight and in need of a hoof trim and having his teeth floated. Since his arrival, he has been brought up to date on his deworming, hoof care and teeth.
He was born in 2001 in Alberta, so he is 11 years old. He is unraced. His sire is Witsend’s Fiddle, who earned $107,090, and his dam is Niastasia who earned $54,491.
When he arrived, he was quite down and tired, but now that he is feeling better, his personality has really come to light. Douggie is goofy, darling, playful and even a bit stubborn. He gets along well with other horses, halters, loads, hauls, etc.
He still has some weight to gain and is healing from a blown abscess, but he is ready to have a family of his own to complete the final stretch of his rehab.
We are looking for either a companion home for him - he gets along with other horses (mares and geldings) and once he puts on the rest of the weight, should be a fairly easy keeper.
Douggie has come a long way since the day we got him when we were unsure about his future, but with his wonderful recovery, we know he will have the chance to celebrate his 12th birthday on June 15th. We are all looking forward to seeing him do so in a home of his own surrounded by a family that loves him.
His adoption fee is $300 with a trial period. He is located in Maple Ridge. Click here to submit an adoption application or contact us for more info if you think Douggie would be a good fit for you and your family!
