He is a 12 year old Draft x gelding who stands 15.3hh. He loaded and hauled great, has good ground manners and is very sweet.
The story goes that he was dumped for slaughter after he attacked and killed a pony. This story comes from the same person who chopped off his beautiful tail right down to the dock because it would serve as a warning to others that he is dangerous. And all this time we thought that was what red ribbons were for...
He has now been at the rescue and in our care for two and a half weeks. He has been out with a number of our geldings as was also out with a Standardbred mare, Romp (now adopted) and he was the bottom of the totem pole. Even on arrival, he was very gentle with Raven our feral filly - she is the boss of him over the fence!
Obviously we want any potential adopter to know his unlikely story and we do not recommend him to be put in with minis, but with that being said, this horse did not deserve a death sentence.
Hedley has been out for four trail rides with us since being at the rescue. We fitted him with an old pair of Cavello boots that have helped make him super comfortable on the trails despite his short hooves. He has a big stride, but is very willing to go. He powers down the trail and is very easy-going horse to ride with a comfortable gait and a soft mouth. He was a bit unsure of some of the bridges, but it didn't take much to convince him that it was okay, and he crossed them quietly.
He is located in Maple Ridge and his adoption fee is $500. Contact us today if you are interested in meeting this big, handsome boy!
