In that time he has been getting in some grazing and rolling at his foster home and that, along with some regular meals and a pedicure, seem to be doing wonders for his attitude.
He is starting to brighten up and one of our volunteers even tells us he is getting a bit cheeky - which is a very good sign for him!
He still has a long way to go in his recovery, but he is slowly putting the weight on and is getting stronger a little bit at a time each day.
Douggie is not available at this time and will remain in our care until he can put on more weight and is able to have his teeth floated.
Douggie is a Standardbred gelding whose surrender was facilitated via the BC SPCA. He arrived at the rescue on March 10 with another horse, Whisper.
He came from a neglectful home where he was on property with three Shetland ponies who went to another rescue, and a third horse which was euthanized at the scene.
From his freezebrand, we found that he is 11 years old and was born June 15 in Alberta. He is unraced.
Our current assessment is that he is a quiet and well-mannered gelding who gets along well with other horses and is easy to catch ad handle. This is just preliminary however as we expect more of his personality (and perhaps his cheeky side) to shine through as he continues with his recovery.
For now, he is enjoying the spoils of some beautiful Spring weather and some loving from his foster mom and one of our wonderful volunteers.
