Success Stories

J&M Acres Horse Rescue has been rescuing horses and giving them a second chance since 1995. Check out some of our extra-special adoption success stories and enjoy the happy endings for each of these rescued horses!

Digger

Picture
Digger is J&M Acres second ever rescue. He was rescued in 1995. Julie had gone to the auction to bring a friend there just to show her what it was like as she had no idea. Digger happened to be at the auction that day and Julie recognized him immediately.

Max

Picture
We had been in touch with Julie from J & M Acres  in search of the “perfect” horse when she finally had a horse come in that sounded suitable. Julie had held onto this horse for 6 months because she had fallen in love and didn’t want to let him go.

Hope & Lucy

Picture
J&M Acres rescued Hope and her dam, Lucy, when Hope was only 4 weeks old from the auction. This day in 2002 a healthy chestnut Quarter Horse mare and her severely crippled 8 week old filly waited their turn in front of the auctioneer and Julie was ready to start bidding.

Crystal

Picture
I found “Crystal” when I was perusing through the J&M website and saw her photo. She was  purchased at auction to avoid slaughter. I was not in the market for a horse, but what harm could come of just a simple visit?

Ozzy

Picture
On December 13, 2010 we picked up a very cute, but one hell of a mess, little Standardbred gelding around four years old named Ozzy.  He was on his way to slaughter when the lady who runs the boarding facility stepped in and called us. He arrived very thin and covered in rain rot.

Duchess

Picture
Duchess came to us on February 21, 2011 in terrible shape. This is what we knew about her on day 1: thin and weak, horrible pancake feet and may have already foundered on one, which we will be getting the farrier to confirm as soon as we can get her out, covered in lice, quite the belly.

Rodeo

Picture
We adopted Rodeo from Julie about 15+ years ago and I think she is in her mid 30’s now and is still going strong!  I caught the long ears bug  from her and have never looked back and because of Rodeo, we have a few mules now.

Splash

Picture
We got the call on November 3, 2011 about two horses at the local auction yard. One was an older Paint gelding. We were told both were sweet and even though we did not have any space, we agreed to pick them up. Of course, both were sweet but in bad shape.
