Digger
Digger is J&M Acres second ever rescue. He was rescued in 1995. Julie had gone to the auction to bring a friend there just to show her what it was like as she had no idea. Digger happened to be at the auction that day and Julie recognized him immediately.

Max
We had been in touch with Julie from J & M Acres in search of the “perfect” horse when she finally had a horse come in that sounded suitable. Julie had held onto this horse for 6 months because she had fallen in love and didn’t want to let him go.

Hope & Lucy
J&M Acres rescued Hope and her dam, Lucy, when Hope was only 4 weeks old from the auction. This day in 2002 a healthy chestnut Quarter Horse mare and her severely crippled 8 week old filly waited their turn in front of the auctioneer and Julie was ready to start bidding.

Crystal
I found “Crystal” when I was perusing through the J&M website and saw her photo. She was purchased at auction to avoid slaughter. I was not in the market for a horse, but what harm could come of just a simple visit?

Ozzy
On December 13, 2010 we picked up a very cute, but one hell of a mess, little Standardbred gelding around four years old named Ozzy. He was on his way to slaughter when the lady who runs the boarding facility stepped in and called us. He arrived very thin and covered in rain rot.

Duchess
Duchess came to us on February 21, 2011 in terrible shape. This is what we knew about her on day 1: thin and weak, horrible pancake feet and may have already foundered on one, which we will be getting the farrier to confirm as soon as we can get her out, covered in lice, quite the belly.

Tim
Tim was rescued by J&M Acres on November 8, 2010. We purchased him at the local stockyard and brought him home. He was very thin and weak after being neglected and even his eyes were worn and tired.

Rodeo
We adopted Rodeo from Julie about 15+ years ago and I think she is in her mid 30’s now and is still going strong! I caught the long ears bug from her and have never looked back and because of Rodeo, we have a few mules now.

Kenny
The silver horse we call Kenny (Chesney)... He came to be part of our horsey family in the summer of 2010. Kenny moved to a 10 acre field to be with his new friend a pinto gelding named Fiddler.

Ben
We rescued Dansey (AKA Ben) from a local horse auction on November 28, 2010 where he would have been sent to slaughter had we not been able to purchase him. As soon as we saw him in the pen, we knew we had to get him.

Kal-El
I rescued Kal at auction, saving him from slaughter, as part of J&M Acres Horse Rescue on September 25, 2011. I bought him as a 14 y/o Percheron x Quarter Horse gelding around 15.2hh. He caught my eye immediately. Read more... |
Splash
We got the call on November 3, 2011 about two horses at the local auction yard. One was an older Paint gelding. We were told both were sweet and even though we did not have any space, we agreed to pick them up. Of course, both were sweet but in bad shape.

Roulette & OMG
Roulette's was slated for slaughter, but luckily instead, came into the rescue on August 29, 2011 from the stockyard. She arrived as an un-broke mare who had recently weaned her foal. She was shy and cautious, but overall, a very nice girl.

Vegas & Sparks
Vegas is a coming four year old Standardbred mare who was brought into the rescue at the beginning of May. A few weeks later, she was adopted by Julie and J&M Acres Horse Rescue.

Lacey & Paisley
Lacey is a 9 year old Zangersheide bred Warmblood mare who came into the rescue on October 29, 2012. She was sent through a cattle auction with another Zangersheide bred Warmblood mare.
