Salty is a sweet old boy who has worked very hard in his lifetime and his body has taken a big toll. He has a large bone chip in one knee and a hip issue. His prior owner was struggling to keep him comfortable and had made the decision in his best interest to euthanize.
Now that he is here, where we are lucky enough to have access to far better resources, we are working with the family and our vet to determine what our options are.
This sweet boy is just an old ex-racehorse looking for a retirement home. He needs to be on pasture because he weaves and paces as a result of the confinement during his long racing career. The stress of being in a stall or paddock situation also makes him unable to put on weight. However, he is much more relaxed and happy when in pasture where he has space to move around and is able to graze freely.
