My name is Max and I have a confession… I have never really been that big of a believer in miracles. It's not my fault, really. After growing up sharing a small paddock with my mom ever since I was a baby, I haven't really seen much in the way of the world, and especially not too many miracles. However, that all changed back in June of this year when my owner passed away and the family was forced to re-home my friends and my mom and I. Luckily, most of my herd mates found homes on the Island not too far from home, but no one seem interested in my mom and I...
One day we were loaded up and we began a journey to somewhere we didn't know. We were both mortified and shook most of the way. We had no idea where we were going and it never occurred to me that it would be somewhere good... That was until we stepped off the trailer at J&M Acres Horse Rescue in Maple Ridge. We were very un-trusting and even though the girls were kind to us, it took us a long time to let them in, especially my mom.
I have now been with J&M Acres Horse Rescue for a while now - in fact, my six month anniversary here will be Christmas Eve. I have witnessed many miracles in that time from new horses coming in and finding homes, to Amy making a breakthrough with my mom, to the residents willingly participating in a local Christmas "parade" (whatever that is) and so much more. I still have a lot of things to work through, I won't deny that, but I hope that some day I will get to go to a new home like my mom and the other horses before me. I hope that one day I will be loved as much as much as the resident horses here who have moms and dads of their own. That would be the ultimate miracle.
Thanks for listening and Merry Christmas!
