We rely on fundraisers to get us through the tough months, but unfortunately, our last couple of fundraisers didn't do well. In fact, our annual pub night made less than half as much as previous years. In addition, when we tried to do our hockey bus fundraiser this year it was Julie's brother who bought 10 of the tickets, which he in turn donated to the Make a Wish Foundation, which was a win in its own right.
Beyond the lack of success with our fundraisers, our four new Arabians ended up costing us approximately $1,000 more than we had anticipated. Had we not received the very generous $1,800 to cover the cost of bail and some of the coggins, we wouldn't have been able to manage the costs.
Going back a little ways now, some of you may recall that we were supposed to get an amazing $10,000 donation in November 2011 from Lillian Campbell when she passed away. Unfortunately, we were told we would have to wait until the will went to probate. We refused to tarnish the memory of her amazing gift, which was spent in anticipation of the donation. Sadly, we never received the money, as often happens with wills family members who dispute the deceased persons charitable intentions.
Lastly, we have a number of horses in-house who are difficult to place due to suitability and age and, while we wouldn't change our decision to take them in, it is a financial set-back for the rescue. With all of this, we are really starting to feel the financial strain.
As it stands, we cannot take in any more horses at this time until we adopt a few out (many of whom are now free to approved homes) and get some funds in the bank. The next auction is on the 29th and I fear we won't be able to help. I know things are tight for everyone, but any help would be great. We would really like to thank all of our amazing supporters for their help over the years in keeping this rescue running. We really wouldn't be able to have saved the horses we have without your help.
