Some of you might already know about this group, but for those of you who don't, there is a group on Facebook called 'The Truth - J&M Acres Horse Rescue', though what it really should be called is "we have all this time to say we can do a better job, yet waste it on talking instead of acting".
We are sure that it is hard for anyone to imagine what it has been like to be the brunt of this type of behaviour and slanderous accusations for almost three years. The members on this page have made up such horrendous fabrications over the years that we have started to refer to them as the National Inquirer of the horse world. Beyond this, they have attacked everything from our hair, clothing, family members, friends, horses and personal lives and even as far as making cruel statements and name calling towards our 15 year old volunteer, as well as: trespassing on our property, threatening us with physical violence, threatening to set our rescue horses loose on a busy highway as well as threatening to steal them. It is strange to be bullied by a group of middle-aged woman. It is humorous these days but still, we thought we had left bullying behind in high school.
The two of us and a handful of volunteers have saved over 800 horses since 1995, but since you and your 300 members can do better, we extend you this challenge. Any horses that we get e-mailed about, called about or hear about at risk, we will forward you their information and you can take it from there. As long as we and our followers can follow their progress and we know that they will be getting good homes, we would be happy to let you take over. We would be more than willing to extend any help that we can as we have done with many other rescues over the years and they have done for us. We would be willing to help out a new one because after all, this is about horses living versus dying not egos.
Imagine the possibilities that 300 plus members could accomplish if they put their time into acting instead of saying they can do better. The only reason we are here is because there are horses dying. This is not easy or fun and it is certainly not profitable, despite the fact that they seem to think it is. Heck, if you think you can make money in rescue, then we will applaud that too because in over 18 years, we sure haven't. We know that Diane Kubas, Kimberley Kirkpatrick, Gord Trotter Reid and I am sure several other members of this group have acreage that would be more suitable for rescue, so why not use it! We only have 2-acres here and we do the best we can with it, but we know there are better facilities out there, unfortunately we don't live on one.
That being said, we have had their members ask us to take horses and help find homes for them. We don't understand that if we are that bad and if they can do it so much better, why are they asking us for help? For everyone who follows us, you have seen what we can accomplish with saving approximately 70 horses a year. Now it is their turn. With your 300 people and multiple properties versus our dozen volunteers and 2-acres, we are sure that if you spent more time saving horses instead of debating the job we are doing that less horses would be slaughtered each year.
We remain true to ourselves and always focus on the horses. This page has not remotely effected how many lives we have saved in the last few years, though it did cause us to waste valuable time instead of focusing 100% on the horses. Despite the negativity, it has brought our founders and volunteers closer in our action to do something about this cause that we feel so strongly about. It has occurred to us just how much time and energy is being wasted on that page while they are busy focusing on us instead of the horses they could be saving. With 89,000 horses slaughtered in Canada alone last year, we are saddened so much time is being wasted on hate when it could be put towards doing some good in the world.
Just to be clear to our fans and followers, we have no intentions of going anywhere. However, reading comments for over two and a half years about how this group and their founders can do better, we would like to see them put their money and time where their mouths are. Julie started this rescue when she was 30 years old and just celebrated her 48th birthday and she is not sure how many more years she can continue working this hard physically.
Feel free to check out this page and encourage them to utilize their time more effectively and put their words into action: https://www.facebook.com/groups/291435154276002/?ref=br_tf
Once again, we would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to everyone who has had a part in over 800 miracles since 1995. If you have any questions about anything that we do here, please contact us directly and we would be happy to provide you with an answer.
Here is what people can accomplish when they put their energy into something positive:
