Prancer
|
J&M Acres rescued Prancer from a local auction on November 26, 2010. We had never seen a horse with so much lack of life. When she came to us, she was very shy and timid of people and her eyes were sad and lonely.
She had, what Julie and I have been referring to, as an “equine version of a black eye”, when she came to the rescue and it was only half open. Our guess, and from the way she was treated both on the ground and under-saddle by the man who had her at the auction, is that her eye was like that from abuse. Her auction note said that she was 12 years old. At the auction she looked like she was about 30 years old because of how badly she had been abused. Due to her past and the fact that she was abused, we took our time with her. Her improvement was really slow, but it was steady. On December 4, we took her in the local Christmas parade. She did great! She had no problem with the noise, the crowd or the other horses and she put her trust in us. After that, she continued to get better. By December 15, she was still shy when it came to being touched and loved by people, but that is understandable. At that point, she had no problem being touched on her body, but shied away badly when you went to touch her face. A month later, December 31, and she has improved 20x over from when she first came into the rescue. She began to greet us with ears forward and eyes bright. She let me rub her entire face including near her eye, which was fully-open by then. Seeing how far she came was amazing. On February 19, 2011 she was adopted and now has a very loving Mom! She is part of a wonderful family and even went home with another rescue horse, Remy. |
Remy
|
Remy is a green-broke, 10 year old, Quarter Horse cross gelding.
He was rescued along with three other horses by a lady who owns a local feed store. Her family ended up keeping the other two horses and they passed Remy over to us so that we could find him a new family. We got him in on January 29, 2011. After his first ride, we realized that he knew a lot more then we thought and he was a wonderful boy to work with. Apparently we weren't the only ones, because on February 19, 2011 he was taken to his new home with Prancer and finally found his family. |
Letter From Their Mom:
I can not thank you and Julie enough for giving these 2 lives a second chance! All I can say is that it was definitely meant to be, especially with Prancer!
I had first seen Prancer on Craigslist, and thought that she would be so perfect! But soon found that she was going to be possibly adopted by someone else! BUT! I waited a couple weeks and found out that she was all mine! I couldn't have been more excited!
When I found that Prancer was going to be possibly adopted, I decided to see which other horses J&M had. I came across Remy. He could not have been any more adorable, and I decided to go and meet him. It was love at first sight, and I knew he HAD to be mine!
So here we are, almost 2 weeks into having my babies home with me! They are GREAT.
Remy can be a little bit of a brat sometimes, but nothing a little training can't fix. He is adorable! Has to have everything about him almost always. He LOVES attention. When it came to our first ride, I was a little nervous because of how his attitude can be on the ground.. he was AMAZING. SO calm, and patient, stood very still while I got on, and listened to me perfectly. He loves being pampered and groomed, and loves all the attention he can get!
Prancer on the other hand is opposite of Remy! She is so calm, and gentle, and almost has a ''fragile'' way about her. She is definitely a very sweet horse. On our first ride, she was very calm and gentle, and listened to everything as well. She needs a bit more training, but over all she is amazing and SO sweet. I don't know how anyone could have the guts to hurt her.
Overall, I am in love with my 2 babys. They are both absolutly amazing and I definitely couldn't have asked for better horses! They will forever have a good place that they can call home. They aren't going anywhere, EVER. I will continue sending all the pictures and videos and updates I can!
