Lady Katrina

Is a Standardbred mare that was given to J&M Acres back in 2009 so that we could find her a home.

She came from the same facility as a few other horses we have had surrendered over the years. The breeder does race them on the track, but if they aren't fast enough, they always re-home them. This is the same thing that happened with Lady Katrina. She had been raced, but proved to be too slow on the track and was given to us so that we could find her a second career.

J&M Acres got her as a three year old and she was adopted out shortly after.

She was green under-saddle and her new mom has been working with her steadily over the past two years. They have mostly worked on her fears, but her now-mom knows that she she loves to pace along the trails!

Lady Katrina is now five years old and and is just learning neck reining which will make life easier.

Star

Star was a six-month old Quarter Horse mare with Paint Me Coose lines that J&M Acres rescued at auction back in 2008.

Her new owner got Star as a yearling in 2009. She has since been working with her on the ground and was able to put her under the saddle in September 2010.

Now in 2011, she plans on spending time on her basic understanding of rider and horse cooperation.

Letter From Their Mom:
I am so glad I was able to hook up with you and able to adopt two wonderful horses two years ago.

They have been wonderful, I’ve learned so much about these creatures and learning to break a horse was so easy! Not at all what I thought.  I was expecting the rodeo ride of my life, but that is not what happens. It is so easy, I would do it every day.I was expecting the rodeo ride of my life, but that is not what happens. It is so easy, I would do it every day.

They were so gentle that I couldn’t refuse. Not to mention, they were young enough that bad influences could be erased with ease. Both are still very green but in time will be terrific. We are learning so much from each other.

I am one of those people who have never owned a horse but was willing to do anything to have one. These two mares are everything and more of what I dreamed. I learned on the fly everything and anything about horses from these two girls. In fact, I am still learning!
