Gracie

Picture
Gracie is a Thoroughbred mare who was purchased at the local auction in December 2009. The owners hadn't been paying her board or feeding her so the facility owner sent her off to slaughter.  She was extremely thin and emaciated when she came to the rescue in an ugly halter covered in Christmas decorations.

Gracie was adopted in the beginning of 2010 and is now in a lovely home who is taking good care of her and challenging her lots.

Letter From Her New Mom:

I had a go with her this spring.  She was quite a hand full for a long time.  Good challenge for me as it has been to many years away from the horses.  I took her to a woman who was a grand prix'er' in the 70's and 80's than turned to the race track after that career.  She knows Thoroughbreds and all their sensitivities.

Over the summer we have discovered that somewhere along the way this horse has had extensive training.  Gracie knows the ring, how to jump and dressage.  Gracie's movement catches everyone attention in the show ring.

Her ground manners are impectable.  By the end of the summer we were in the hunter and jumper and the equitation classes at the fall fair.  We won the novice high point for the english division.  That was a fun day for both me and my daughter.
I can now trail ride with Gracie, something which I don't think she has ever done before.  I still need to do some tweeking but this old mare has brought me back into this exciting life with horses and now I can share it with my daughter.

Thank you Julie for finding this horse and seeing something which the previous owner just wanted to throw away. Everyone that meets this horse and hears her story is in shock that she ended up so close to the meat truck.

I will keep you updated on this beautiful majestic horse.
