Empress
Empress is a 21 year old, papered Holsteiner mare. She was surrendered to J&M Acres Horse Rescue in October 2010 from her owner who had her out on the island. When she came to the rescue, she was quite thin, but other then that seemed very healthy. Empress spent a few weeks at the rescue before going out to pasture to meet new rescue friends and start to put on some weight.
She was adopted on Christmas Eve 2010 and now resides at her new home.
Letter From Her New Mom:
Empress is finally settling in at the new barn. It was a bit hard for her to adjust at first. She wasn't so sure of what to make of being in a box stall at night but she is now happy to come in for her treats and dinner. She still gets excited in the barn if the others are out but she is coming along pretty good for an older gal! She gets to go out and pretend there is lots of grass to eat with the other horses during the day time. That is the best thing about our barn is the turn out is all day with loads of summer pasture.
We have been working on bonding and a gentle reminder on manners (oh wait is there a person there on my lead?!). She is learning (or maybe relearning?) to lunge. So far we are keeping things short and sweet and she is blooming with the attention.
She is gaining some weight now and seems to realize I am her "person". I am loving her more and more. Thank you so much for helping Adam make it happen for me to have her.
