Digger

Digger is J&M Acres second ever rescue. He was rescued in 1995. Julie had gone to the auction to bring a friend there just to show her what it was like as she had no idea.
Digger happened to be at the auction that day and Julie recognized him immediately. She had actually gone to look at him a few months prior at a local stable. The stable had purchased a bunch of horses for The Eco-Challenge and Digg was one of them. Only a while later, he had ended up at the auction. At the time, Julie had a very nice Paint Horse that she was riding, but she ended up buying Digger because she felt sorry for him. She also had a friend who had been looking into getting a horse for her daughter and with Digger's history and being well-broke, Julie thought it would be a good match. |
When Julie brought Digger home he was covered in rain rot and had puss running down his back and his shoes were falling off. After sorting him out on that first day, she hopped on him and walked him up the street.
After only a few steps, she fell in love with him and decided to keep him herself.
Digger is currently 25 years old and has been with Julie for the past 15 years. When he was younger, he went out with Julie to compete in western pleasure and barrel racing events (which they won many of). He is now a spunky old fart. He still loves McDonald's french fries though!
Right now, Digger is at a foster property not too far from the rescue. We adore him, but he is now at a place where he gets a bit more attention. Plus, the rescue needed the extra space. He loves his new foster Mom's and we are so very happy that they were able to take and look after him for us.
Digger is a very special boy. Whenever rescuing gets tough, Julie always thinks about what might have happened to Digger 15 years ago had she not been there and that is all the motivation we need.
