Charm & Hemi

These two came into the rescue on February 11, 2011 with the names Misty and Flash. They are 2002 Appaloosas - one mare, one gelding. Not only that, they are twins!

Misty registered name is "Dinero's Duece" and Flash is "Dinero Unknown". The sire was "Moon Bar Dinero". A tri-colored Leopard stallion with an identified Level 3 registration as well as registered with the American Appaloosa Club and CHRA. His sire, Dinero Snowcap was a great-great grandson of the legendary Rio Dinero. His dam was Roman Crystal. The mare was "Exception" (or Exy) whom is an offspring of Indignant and XRated Madam.

They came from a family up North who had owned them since 2003 but could no longer afford to care for them.

They stuck to each other like glue for the first little while they were here. As we started to get full-up at the rescue, we moved them out to the pasture. Once out there in the company of other horses, they started to get a little more confident and curious and didn't spend all their time side-by-side, although still most of it. We had some interest in them over the time they were here, but only one couple that made it out to see them. They immediately loved their personalities and attitudes and agreed to adopt them. They couldn't arrange hauling for a few days, so they popped down every day until the twins came home so they could spend time with them.

When they arrived at home on March 30, 2011, the twins had plenty of time to settle and then their new parents began to work with them. As the two aren't yet saddle-broke, they were a great project for their new family (who re-named them Charm and Hemi).

At first, they started with the basics like putting a saddle pad on and testing them for bombproof qualities with tarps over their heads. Both the twins passed with flying colors. The only thing they seem to be scared of is the Appaloosa-eating fly spray bottle... But hey, we can't win them all! So far, they have saddled both of the twins now as well and after a couple sessions of putting the saddle on, tightning the cinch and banging the stirrups against their sides, the twins are good to go to start their under-saddle training. They are looking forward to having a streak of good weather so they can take the twins out on the trails!

All-in-all, Charm and Hemi are doing great and their new parents couldn't be happier.
