Hedley returned to the rescue this past weekend through no fault of his own. He was doing well at his adoptive home in Prince George, but his adopter was pregnant and didn't have as much time to devote to him. With a child on the way, she opted to send him back to find him a new home where he will get the attention he deserves and instead she will be looking for a kids-safe mount in the Spring after her baby is born.
For those of you who don't remember Hedley, he is an approximately 12 year old Draft x gelding (possibly Arabian mix) who stands 15.3hh. He loads and hauls, has good ground manners, is good for the farrier, gets along with other horses and is very sweet.
He originally came into the rescue in March of this year. The story went that he was dumped for slaughter after he attacked and killed a pony. This story comes from the same person who chopped off his beautiful tail right down to the dock because apparently that would serve as a warning to others that he is dangerous. He was at the rescue for four months before being adopted and had no incidents with any of the other horses or us. During his time at his adoptive home, he got along with the other horses there as well.
Hedley is a very well-broke boy and a lovely ride. We have had him on the trails dozens of times and he has been wonderful! He has lots of energy, but is very well trained with no buck/bolt/spook/etc. He has a big stride, but is very willing to go. He powers down the trail and is very easy-going horse to ride. He is great on the trails going over bridges and down steep mountainsides without any issue - and he is great with his doggie companions on his heels. He is barefoot and 100% sound.
His prior owners rode him in a tie down and with heavy hands, so Hedley would do great with a rider who is light in their hands, but confident with a relaxed seat. We feel that a home with an advanced rider who wants to hit the trails 3x or more per week would be perfect for him.
He is located in Maple Ridge and his adoption fee is $500 with a two-week trial period. So for any of you who missed your chance to adopt this boy, now is your opportunity! Priority will be given to local homes. Please contact us if you are interested in meeting this handsome and deserving boy.
