Adopted: April 7, 2014
Angelo has been adopted and is already settling in great at his new home! They already love him and he seems to be enjoying his new family too, especially the kids :) He is also already bonding with their mare.
They are planning on letting him hang out and settle in until Summer, so he will have the remaining rest time he needs before he is worked at all.
We are so happy for him and are looking forward to updates on his new life.

Angelo is a 15hh Quarter Horse who is approx 15 years old who was picked up from the stockyard on December 23rd where he was dumped just two days before Christmas. He has been in rehab here since his arrival. He is a very sweet boy who has great manners and is an absolute doll.
UPDATE [January 28, 2014]: We loaded Angelo up and took him to the vet tonight to get a diagnosis on the cause for the soreness in his fronts. We ended up getting both xrays and an ultrasound done on his font left fetlock today. All in all, the prognosis is that has multiple torn ligaments in his left feltlock along with major calcification. The vet's recommendation is to try a suspensory front shoe to help support his feltlock along with some anti-inflammatory medication to make him more comfortable. We will be able to re-assess a week after he gets shod and possibly look into doing shockwave therapy to help the ligaments continue to heal. We have already contacted our farrier who will be designing the appropriate shoes as suggested by the vet and we will of course update everyone on his progress. We would like to say a big thank you to Dr. Kleider for not only taking the time to do a thorough assessment on our boy and for presenting us with some options, but also for offering us a generous discount.
UPDATE [February 2, 2014]: Got new custom-made suspension shoes put on Angelo's fronts and he already seems to be more comfortable.
UPDATE [February 11, 2014]: Angelo was galloping around with the gang at our foster home this morning. It looks like the shoes have really done him some good :) See the video on Facebook here. We are looking to take him back in to the vet in the next week or two for a second assessment.
UPDATE [March 4, 2014]: Angelo went in for a follow-up appointment today and got his first round of shockwave therapy! It is a pressure wave therapy designed to help promote healing of ligaments, so hopefully with a few treatments, he will be sound in no time. The total bill today was $211. Thank you again to Dr. Kleider for giving us a discount for Angelo! We are looking forward to seeing how this treatment works in bringing him back to soundness.
UPDATE [March 17, 2014]: We are officially opening up adoption applications for Angelo! He still has one more round of shockwave therapy to go while he is here with us and then will be ready to go to a new home. The vet and ourselves are not entirely sure where he will end up soundness wise, but from what we can see he will be suitable for light to moderate riding. He is currently at our foster home and has absolutely no issue galloping around with the rest of the herd. We just want to air on the side of caution as the reason he had lameness issues to begin with was due to the fact that his previous owners worked him to the point where they injured him and then continued to ride him hard. We are looking for an intermediate to advanced home for him simply because we a knowledgeable home that isn't going to push him past what he can do.
He comes with an extended trial period to make sure that it is a good fit. If he is deemed unsuitable for riding, we will waive his adoption fee and re-home him as a companion-only.
