NAME: Douggie
AGE: 11 y/o
BREED: Standardbred
GENDER: Gelding
HEIGHT: 16hh
RIDER LEVEL: Intermediate - Advanced
SUITABILITY: Western or English Pleasure, Trails
ADOPTION FEE: $300

Douggie is a Standardbred gelding in whose surrender was facilitated via the BC SPCA. He arrived on March 10th in bad shape. He was extremely underweight and in need of a hoof trim and having his teeth floated. He was born June 15, 2001 in Alberta, so he is 11 years old. He is unraced. His sire is Witsend’s Fiddle, who earned $107,090, and his dam is Niastasia who earned $54,491. He stands 16hh.

Douggie has quite the personality now that he is feeling better. He is goofy and darling, but can be stubborn and is best suited for an intermediate handler. He gets along well with other horses, is easy to halter and handle. Since his arrival, he has been brought up to date on his deworming, hoof care and will be getting his teeth done May 7th at which point he will be available for adoption.

He still has some weight to gain, but it is coming along steadily. Now that he has completed two months of rehab at our farm, we are looking for a lovely family to take him the rest of the way - and love him to bits in the process. We are looking for a companion or light to moderate riding home for him. He would do best as a pleasure or trail mount with an intermediate rider who wants to do some riding 1-3x a week.

She has strong, compact feet, is a very, very easy keeper and cross ties, halters, lunges, and is very good with other horses, cats, dogs, children, etc. She hasn't been ridden lately, but she goes English and Western.

GENDER: Gelding
HEIGHT: 15.3hh
RIDER LEVEL: Advanced Beginner
SUITABILITY: English/Western Pleasure, Trials
ADOPTION FEE: $500

Kingston is a 24 year old appendix gelding. He is a very sweet boy who knows his manners, gets along with other horses, is easy to handle and catch. He is well-broke to ride and is smooth as silk, knows all his commands and is very quiet. He is beginner safe, but because he is so well-trained and so soft, we are looking to find him a home with an advanced beginner who knows the basics and can cue him properly under-saddle. He would be great for someone looking for an old Cadillac for light to moderate riding.

REGISTERED NAME: Call Gale
AGE: 5 y/o
BREED: Standardbred
GENDER: Mare
HEIGHT: 14.2hh
RIDER LEVEL: Intermediate - Advanced
SUITABILITY: Western or English Pleasure, Trails, Endurance, etc
ADOPTION FEE: $500

Our new girl is a 2008 Standardbred mare by the name of "Call Gale". She is a small girl around 14.2hh. She was on her way for meat, but now has a chance at a new life. She last raced on April 19 with 14 starts in her career and earnings of $5,100 in her career, but was retired because she was too slow. She was nervous and unsure, but haltered well and was quiet to handle and haul.
She has had her first ride under-saddle! She was a little stressy on the ground, but awesome once mounted. She went solo down the trail and has a sure-footed, ground-eating walk. She went through mud, water and bridges like a trooper, even with three dogs running around her. Great endurance prospect!

With some love and a chance to detox from her previous fast-paced life at the track, this girl will definitely shine. Best suited for an intermediate to advanced rider until she has a few more miles on her.

<![CDATA[James]]>Tue, 12 Feb 2013 16:09:32 GMThttp://www.jmacresrescue.com/1/post/2013/02/james1.htmlPicture
NAME: James
AGE: 18 y/o
BREED: Anglo-Arabian
GENDER: Gelding
HEIGHT: 16.2hh
RIDER LEVEL: Experienced
SUITABILITY: Trail, Western or English Pleasure
ADOPTION FEE: Free to good home.
*Located on Vancouver Island

James is a 18 year old, 16.2hh Anglo-Arabian gelding. He was adopted in December 2011, but is in need of a new home. His adopter has gotten as far as she can in working with him and is looking for a person willing to take him on the last leg of his ' emotional/mental rehab' journey.

For the last month, James has had 4-5 sessions with Will Clinging. This is what he had to say about James: “He has an interesting personality, he can be calm and easy to handle but he has an unpredictable streak where he will rear and act very intimidating. I think that over his lifetime he has used this as an effective evasion. He is not at all a mean horse but when he is startled or pressured he will act up in a rather demonstrative way. At time he is almost stallion like. He is improving and having spoken with his owner about him he has come a long way since she has had him. If she does want to re home James it will need to be an experienced horse person to continue to help him. He is not an amateurs horse and certainly not a kids horse. An inexperienced handler would be in trouble with James in a short time. He also does not need to be overpowered by too strong a handler. That is possibly the cause of his behavior, too much pressure and not enough understanding. He will need someone not easily intimidated and a confident handler.”

James was shown and trained to level three Dressage and his past owner did mostly pleasure and trails. He is a great, well-schooled boy. His owner does note that James is “much calmer under saddle. He has never bucked, kicked, struck at, flipped over or run away with a rider in a ring. When James is in a familiar ring environment, you literally could put a child bareback on him using only a halter and lead rope to ride”.

What it seems that James needs at this point is a more experienced handler who has the physical and mental capacity to work with James and give him the help he needs to come all the way around. His owner hopes the right person will be willing to spend time with James in different situations and be willing to visit their farm and spend time with Will Clinging to get a 'jist' of where James is at.

James is currently located on Vancouver Island with his owner and is free to a good home. We are looking to find the best match for him and anyone interested can be put in touch with his owner and meet with her and Will Clinging about giving James a suitable home.
